Abstract

A case of tracheal obstruction in 78-year old man is presented. During tracheostomy, thick tracheal cartilage was biopsied. Histologically, an island of cartilage associated with calcification and marrow is noted. Although it reveals no lining
epithelium we think that dyspnea of this patient is caused by this pathologic change. Radiologically, nearly all tracheal ring reveals ossfication and tracheal lumen is diffusely narrowed. CT scans demonstrate narrowed tracheal and bronchial
lumen
caused by submucosal irregular calcification. So, we conclude that this case is tracheopathia osteoplastica. We review this disease and report a case.
